Unfortunately not. I did a lot of work fine tuning the dish - even took
the Ku elbow off! Other channels are coming in strongly though.

Strangely enough the picture seems to show a lot less artifacts if
I have the menu system up on the receiver - Manhatten DSR-5500CI.
I have no idea why.

In this age of digital satellite is it still possible for broadcasters
to use
a half transponder?

With my cheap decoder, I'm sure it has something to do with the
PCR. I might be making a fool of myself as this is a bit above my
head, so this is just speculation. PCR stands for program clock
reference and is what keeps the sound and video together
(lipsyncing) Very minte changes to the PCR do apparently cause
distortion and screen blanking. The decoder picking up NTSC with
a higher frame rate, when put in PAL mode with a lower frame rate
has these symtoms.

I say this as it works fine in NTSC mode for me, but not in PAL.

SCPC signals don't use a full transponder, and are used for feeds
like this one. DSNG vans and different sources from different
locations can then use the same transponder. SCPC signals have
guard bands which lessen the effiency but stop the various
sources interfering with each other. I think most of T12 use
half a transponder as the bandwidth is 54Mhz.

While this is how I think it works, I could be talking a lot of
rubbish.

There definitely was something there, as I'm getting no signal at
all now. The SR may have been 1500 FEC 3/4 /(Was getting EB/No
35%, but no lock). I get about 40% BER for DAD-5 (11518H 3745) on
a good day.
